Summary
The Software Engineer will be responsible for the development of microbial genome and metagenome data analysis, exploration, and visualization tools for the Integrated Microbial Genomes (IMG) and Integrated Microbial Genomes with Microbiome Samples (IMG/M).

Specifically, you will:
* Work as part of a team to develop microbial genome and metagenome data analysis, exploration, and visualization tools for the Integrated Microbial Genomes (IMG) and Integrated Microbial Genomes with Microbiome Samples (IMG/M) systems.
* Design, develop, implement and maintain IMG's and IMG/M's Web based User Interfaces.
* Troubleshoot and solve diverse and challenging problems, exercise independent judgment and select appropriate solutions.

Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Life Sciences, or related field or equivalent experience.
* At least eight years experience as a software engineer or database administrator working in a team environment.
* Demonstrated experience designing web applications with Javascript and AJAX and strong experience with HTML and CSS.
* Expertise in CGI programming with Perl and/or Java and integrating web and database technology.
* Experience with SQL, and at least one of the following RDBMS: Oracle, Postgres or MySQL.
* Ability to expertly use a variety of operating systems (e.g., Unix, Windows, and Mac OS X).
* Understanding of cross-browser capability issues.
* Experience with source control, revision management, object-oriented design.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently in an environment with short deadlines and evolving requirements.
* Ability to interact effectively with users with minimal computer expertise, and to work effectively with biologists, and other team members.
Desired
* Experience with biological data, computational biology tools and resources, such as Blast, Genbank, protein and domain databases.

 
Notes
This is a one-year, term appointment with the possibility of renewal and with the possibility of conversion to career based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs.
