Summary
Berkeley Lab is seeking a Software and Network Engineer to join the Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) new Advanced Network Technologies Group. ESnet is a high-speed network serving thousands of Department of Energy scientists and collaborators worldwide.

Managed and operated by the ESnet staff at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, ESnet provides high-speed direct connections to all major Department Of Energy sites tying them both directly to Research and Education networks worldwide and the greater Internet. Funded principally by DOE's Office of Science, ESnet services allow scientists to make effective use of unique DOE research facilities and computing resources, independent of time and geographic location.

This position is primary to help configure and run a network testbed for the research community. The testbed will be used to create an experimental network research environment where researchers can prototype dynamic provisioning of multiple-layers and multiple-domain hybrid packet/circuit-switched networks.

Specifically, you will:

    * Help configure Network devices, including Infinera DTNs and Juniper routers
    * Help configure virtual machine-based test hosts.
    * Help write testbed scheduling software
    * Help write testbed monitoring software
    * Work with testbed users to help them run their tests

Required skill and experience:

    * BS degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science, Engineering or related field and a minimum of three years related experience.
    * Demonstrated experience configuring network switches and routers.
    * Demonstrated experience programming in a number of languages, including python, Java, and Perl, in a Unix environment.
    * Demonstrated experience with system administration of Unix systems.
    * Knowledge of modern Web technologies and development tools.
    * Demonstrated ability to work both independently, work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team, and contribute to an active intellectual environment.

Computer Systems Engineer (CSE) 3:
In addition to the above qualifications required for a CSE 2, a CSE 3 must have a minimum of six years related experience, knowledge of project management techniques/methods and strong organization, facilitation, and communications skills. Excellent organizational and documentation skills. Ability to facilitate brainstorming sessions with teams to gather requirements. Be able to work on multiple tasks and accept fluid situations. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues, customers, and vendors.
Desired skills:

    * MS degree or equivalent
    * Knowledge of MPLS and GMPLS.

Notes
This is a one-year, term appointment with the possibility of renewal and with the possibility of conversion to career based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs.
