Abstract:
This talk concerns numerical algorithms for solving eigenvalue
problems, with emphasis on efficient iterative solution of the
sequence of linear systems that arise when inexact Rayleigh quotient
iteration, subspace iteration and implicitly restarted Arnoldi
method are applied to detect interior eigenvalues. We provide new
insights into the tuning of preconditioning proposed by Spence and
his collaborators, and show that the cost of solving these linear
systems can be further reduced by the combined use of several other
strategies.
